Basescu gets 32.4% of Romanians\' votes and Geoana 31.1%,final result of presidential elections shows

Traian Basescu obtained 32.44 percent of Romanians\' votes in the first round of the presidential elections, and was closely followed by Mircea Geoana with 31.15 percent, according to the final results announced by the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC).

Crin Antonescu ranked third, with 20.02 percent of the votes.


According to the final results, the classification continues with the leader of Greater Romania Party (PRM), Corneliu Vadim Tudor, who gathered 5.56 percent of the votes, and the representative of the minority Hungarian party (UDMR), Kelemen Hunor, with 3.83 percent.

The independent candidate Sorin Oprescu got 3.18 percent of Romanians\' votes, while football tycoon George Becali only 1.91 percent. The other five candidates obtained less than 1 percent.

As many as 54.37 percent of the citizens with voting rights went to the polls on Sunday to choose Romania\'s president, and 50.95 percent to vote for the national referendum on the Parliament.

About 77.78 percent of the Romanians\' said \"yes\" for a single-chamber Parliament and 88.84 percent for slashing the number of parliamentary to 300.
The second round of the presidential elections will be held on December 6.
