Romanian Tourism Ministry will launch on June 15 a campaign to promote Romania as a holiday destination for Romanian tourists, declared today minister Elena Udrea.

One of the main objectives of this campaign is to promote the holiday tickets for vacations spent within borders.

“We hope that by June 15 we can start the campaign Tourist in Romania, which will determine more Romanians to spend their holidays in the country,” Udrea said.

Tourism agencies proposed the ministry to introduce an incoming tax of around two euros for each foreign tourist the agencies manage to bring to Romania, added Udrea.

Such a tax varies between 0.5 and 5 euros in the countries where it has already been introduced.

According to the minister, if around one million tourists are brought to Romania, it will only cost the Tourism Ministry around two million euros, which would be a profitable investment.

Another measure proposed by the agencies would be to cut the value added tax (VAT) for tourist service packages, which include accommodation, transportation and meals.

Udrea declared last month Romania's Tourism Ministry uses about 40 percent of the budget to advertise Romania, respectively 3.2 million euros, to promote the country to foreign tourists.

She added the amount is not so big, taking into account that Greece benefits from a 75 million euro promotion budget and Spain from 450 million euros.
