Romania`s public debt ups to lei 140.1bn in September, represents 28.2% of the GDP
Romania's total public debt rose 27.6 percent on September 30 from the end of last year and reached 140.09 billion lei, representing 28.17 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) estimated for the year, according to data published by the Public Finance Ministry (MFP).
The total public debt was of 109.75 billion lei at the end of 2008 and represented 21.78 percent of last year's GDP.
The weight of the public governmental debt in the whole of the debt increased by 1.26 percentage points versus the end of 2008, from 91.58 percent to 92.84 percent, while the local public debt stood for 7.16 percent of the total debt after the first nine months.
The ratio of the negotiable debt rose to 38.6 percent at the end of September, from 25.7 percent in December 2008.
According to the ministry, 61.96 percent of the debt was maturing in the short run, 34.85 percent was medium-termed and 3.19 percent was maturing in more than 5 years.
