The leu’s indicative won 7.3% on the day against the franc to 3.5244 units, the highest rate in two months, after the Swiss National Bank said the franc was seriously overrated and announced drastic measures to stop its appreciation.
However, the leu continued to retreat against the euro by mid trade Tuesday and the central bank’s reference weakened almost 0.2% to 4.251 units, from 4.2429 units a day earlier.
On the other hand, the leu gained modestly versus the US dollar, trading at 2.9992 units, from 3.0025 units Monday.
On the money market, overnight rates fell to 4.7%-5.2% a year, from 5.3%-5.8% a year in the previous session.
