End-June, the public debt reached 39.4% of the gross domestic product, from 37% of GDP in May.
The wider debt was mostly due to a five-year eurobond issue on international markets, which brought the ministry EUR1.5 billion at the beginning of the month.
The public debt-to-GDP ratio was calculated using an estimated GDP of RON543.04 billion for 2011. A year earlier, Romanian GDP was RON513.6 billion.
Government public debt was 94.56% of the total debt in June, while local authorities’ debt accounted for 5.44%. (EUR1=RON4.2356)
