Romania meets budget deficit target of 7.3% of the GDP at the end of 2009, official says
The economy compressed 7 percent in 2009 and Romania met the budget deficit target of 7.3 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) at the end of last year, according to preliminary data of the Public Finance Ministry (MFP), said the government secretary of MFP, Gheorghe Gherghina.
The ministry expects a 1.3 percent economic growth for 2010. Gherghina also mentioned “the possible expenses in the general consolidated budget will reduce from 38 percent of the GDP in 2009 to 37.3 percent in 2010”, in a bid to reach the 5.9 percent budget gap target.
Romania's government settled with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission (EC) a budget deficit target of 7.3 percent of the GDP for the end of 2009 and of 5.9 percent of the GDP for the end of 2010 within the 20 billion euro financial agreement.
