Peste două tone de cocaină, care valorează aproximativ un miliard de dolari, au fost capturate de autorităţile din Gambia, informează BBC News Online.
Pe lângă captura de droguri, care urmau să fie transportate în Europa, autorităţile au mai pus mâna şi pe o sumă ridicată de bani gheaţă şi pe o cantitate impresionantă de arme. La operaţiunea autorităţilor gambiene au pus umărul şi reprezentanţi ai Agenţiei pentru Crimă Organizată din Marea Britanie.
Africa de Vest reprezintă un punct de tranzit important pentru drogurile care provin din America Latină şi au ca destinaţie Europa. Cartelurile de droguri au profitat de sărăcia şi de sistemele judiciare fragile din zone, pentru a pune pe picioare depozite colosale de droguri.
Cele două tone de cocaină au fost descoperite într-un astfel de depozit, situat la o oră de mers cu maşina de capitala Banjul.
